hulk smash my face

Ever dropped 3 buyins in 200 hands? I did last night... which was fun. Below is the big loser, and I'm not quite sure I hate the play. The villain was 30/23/4 and making some pretty questionable plays, so I wanted to make him pay. The problem I have with this hand is that we were both so deep stacked. I have no qualms about making this shove when we both have 100BB; however, is it the right play given the fact that we are both at 150BB? I think he made a terrible call given his holding and my action, but curious on anyone else's thoughts. What would your line be?

... like a phoenix

The summer is nearly over and my willingness to be overworked and underappreciated in the office has been tested, which means one thing: it's time for me to spend less time worrying about work, and more time improving my poker game. I've been strictly 4tabling 100nl this month with the following results. Not great, but I think I'm finally figuring out the level and expect to see much better results in my next 10k+ hands.

anger pants

So my desktop decided to die on me last week, mere hours after my Xbox360 gave me the flashing red light of death (aka: turned into a big paper weight). Needless to say, this is not a good start of the month for me from an electronics perspective. So being the good consumer that I am, I hit up NewEgg to buy up the components to build a brand-spankin' new doozy of a computer, flushed a grand down the toilet, and anxiously awaited their arrival. Three days later I return home with the glorious UPS package and began assembly.

Fast forward 4 days and I still don't have a functioning desktop computer. For starters, my old hard drive (you know, the one with all my programs, music, movies, and most importantly PokerTracker database) won't boot up. Not cool. Plan B involves me attempting to load Windows XP (pirated copy of course) onto my new HDD that was purchased in previously mentioned rage-fueled shopping spree. No dice. Blue screen of death. Plan C goes into effect, where I literally try to install every version of Windows I own burned copies of onto this new hard drive just so I can hopefully read the files from the old one, back up my PT db onto a CD, and reformat EVERYTHING. 5 failed installs later, I finally have Windows semi-running and am just awaiting PokerTracker to send me a new reg code so that I can make my feeble attempt at reading a PostgreSQL database off of another hard drive and back it up. I'll keep you posted on my sob story.

Due to aforementioned events, no poker in the past week. And no poker at least until next week due to a trip to San Diego on Wednesday. Fun times will be had, and I won't be thinking about the devil computer (I hope). Yay.

poofs... (edit: Malfaire is secretly an *nSync fanboy)

Quick update since I posted last... I have decided *not* to venture into the 100NL waters yet, seeing as though I've finally conceded the point that $500 of my bankroll has evaporated into thin air. I wasn't quick enough to the punch when the whole Internet Gambling thing went down, and consequently have $500 stuck in Neteller. Malfaire keeps telling me that that money is gone, and as optimistic as I once was, it's time to face the facts and give up any hope of seeing that cash again. Farewell, buyins, it was nice knowing you. That being said, once I win 10 more buyins at 50NL it will be time to move up. Here's hoping the fishies come out to play this week.

** Results for 4/18 - 4/22 **
Today: +$127.15
To Date: $2,095.16
To Go: $12,904.84

testing the waters with no floaties

So I've decided to test out 100NL as my main game. I don't really know what made me jump to this conclusion, but I think it has something to do with the fact that I feel like I'm just grinding it out at 50NL playing 6 tables, and I'm not really learning a lot of new stuff. If I want to move up in the game, I need to buckle down and focus on my plays and the understanding of why I'm doing certain things against certain opponents.

That being said, I've decided to cut my tables to 2-3 and take a stab at 100NL. Hopefully this will allow me to focus in on the players at the table, and will up my winrate and my knowledge of the game and situations. I know how multi-table stat monkeys play (cuz I was one for 100k+ hands), and it's time to exploit that. Wish me luck at the tables, because I'm taking a new approach. I'm actually quite excited about it though, and have been thinking about grabbing some lessons from a coach. Malfaire just signed up with Ray (aka Hustler), and is quite happy with the results of the first session. If next week goes well for him and I'm still surviving at 100NL, I definitely plan to seek his services as well... the guy's understanding of the game and progress through the lower levels are sick.
